  What an amazing experience this was! We had a two-night stay booked at the Inn at Little Washington--had Saturday dinner reservations there, but needed dinner plans for Friday as well. I came across Foster Harris House on the web and am so pleased I did.
  From the minute we walked in the door for dinner, John and Diane made us feel truly at home. The limited seating and personal attention make you feel like you're at a private dinner party. The decor is casual but elegant, and the food is truly outstanding. The menu could easily be that of an upscale Manhattan restaurant, and the ingredients are perhaps even better because they are all sourced locally. Given the setting, the imagination and quality of the food, and the warm and friendly manner of John and Diane, the prix fixe dinner with wine pairing is a tremendous value. In many ways we preferred the Foster Harris experience to the much-lauded restaurant at the Inn at Little Washington up the street.
  Foster Harris House is one of those rare gems, and well worth the trip. Despite local farms, area wineries and NYC culinary talent, we have nothing like Foster Harris House here on Long Island. John and Diane--if you ever want to relocate, we'll have you booked solid for years to come!

  Just returned from a weekend at Foster Harris House. The hospitality was superb, the weather was glorious and the food spectacular. Diane provided a warm welcome. The inn gave us much needed respite from the hectic pace of daily life.
  
  The food? Local and seasonal ingredients were woven throughout the menu. Highlights were the carrot and ginger soup with a touch of creme fraiche (like a warm hug), the melt-in-your mouth filet mignon and wood ice cream -- yes ice cream infused with essence of several types of wood.

  Our second visit to the Foster Harris House and it's just like coming home. John and Dianne are the most gracious hosts and do some many things to make your visit special. Beautiful and comfortable, this is a place that invites you to linger and relax, and yearn for your next visit. Breakfast is always a highlight here. John goes above and beyond to prepare a beautiful, multi course breakfast that is memorable. The scones are to die for, and the other courses are unique and delicious. Our stay was part of a cycling weekend along Skyline Drive on a Saturday and then from Washington back up to Loudoun county on Sunday. John was gracious to accommodate an early departure by our riders while the rest of our crew got to enjoy a more leisurely breakfast. This is great destination for many reasons including all the outdoor activities in Shenandoah National Park and the surrounding area as well as the some great restaurants in the local area including the Inn at Little Washington. We have not had the opportunity to enjoy one of the wine dinners that John does at Foster Harris House but are looking forward to getting that on the calendar soon. Foster Harris house gets all the stars we can give it!! Most highly recommended.
